General Description
This series A.C. diesel generating set adopts power-saving diesel engine as its prime mover, with the features of tight and reasonable structure, stable performance, advanced economical data, convenient operation and maintenance. All the targets for generating sets are in conformity with relative standard of GB/T2820-1997 reciprocating internal combustion engine driven alternating current generating sets and I.E.C. It has wide applications such as: motive power or reserved power source for post and telecommunications, mine exploiting, road construction project, water conservancy project, factory, farm, hotel and cinema
organization and government or industrial organization.
GF series diesel generator sets are the main products of our manufacturer. They comprise of our advanced technology, excitation system synchronous generators with comprehensive structures. They have been coupled with Chinese national Standard 4001 Series diesel engines. High quality and sophisticated techniques, our generators supply stable, reliable and economical power to customers at home and abroad.
The advantages of GF series diesel generator sets are of steady operation, durability and easy maintenance. They are widely used as lighting, mobile or stationary power supply for industrial, mining enterprises, hotels, hospitals, cities, towns, villages, fishery, animal husbandry, forestry, telecommunications and broadcasting. They can be used as emergency/standby power supply for mansions, hotels and restaurants as well. When GF series unit work under rated power 0 ~100% and COS 0.8, and under
three-phase symmetrical load, the automatic voltage regulation rate can meet the requirements for general operation; When unloaded, rated voltage can be adjusted between 95 ~ 105% range. The unit can directly start squirrel cage type three-phase
asynchronous motor whose rated output is 30%~70%; When the unit are under three-phase asymmetrical load, each phase current not beyond the rated value and the three-phase current not surpassing 20%, the unit is able to work long time.
Under the following environmental conditions, the series can continuously work 12
hours with stable output power
1 Ambient temperature: 5～40℃
2 Relative humidity: 85%（25℃）
3 Altitude: 1000 m
4 Longitudinal gradient during working: 10°
The series should keep away from places with electricity-conductive dust,
corrosive gas destructing insulation or with explosive hazardous materials.
The rated power (that is: unit capacity) is the output for consecutive 12 hours
(including 10% overload work for 1 hour) under the conditions of the ambient
temperature 20 ℃, relative humidity 60% and atmospheric pressure 760 millimeter
mercury column high.
When diesel generator set works in the environmental conditions different from
above, the generator output should be revised.
1 When diesel generator set continuously works more than 12 consecutive hours, its
output (sustained power output) is revised to 90% conversion. If diesel generator
set works under the environmental conditions different from the above, the
sustained power output is revised to 90% conversion too.
2 When the diesel generator set works under the environmental conditions different
from the above stipulated 1, 2, 3 items, its output can be revised according to
Diesel Generator Operation & Maintenance Instructions.
4 Placement and installation
Places to put the diesel generator in stock, to install and to operate should conform to
the following conditions:
1 The engine room should be capacious, well-aired with low humidity and
ambient temperature < 40 ℃;
2 At night the generators should be with good lighting. When outdoors, the
generators should have shield against rain drenching or exposure to blazing
sunlight.
3 The ambiance of the generators should be clean, without any materials that emit
acidic, caustic or other erosive gases.
4 For the sake of safety, the diesel generator set and the switch panel must have
earth wire to the ground. Cross-sectional area of the earth wire should not be less
than that of generator output line. The earth wire must be connected with
underground water pipe or with steel plate deeply buried underground, so to
guarantee earth wire’s good grounding. Earth wire’s resistance should not be more
than 50 ohms;
5 The accumulator cell should be fixed for work and electricity charging according
to circuit diagram in Diesel Engine Operation & Maintenance Instructions.

Before operation, please carefully read Diesel Generator Set Operation Specification and maintenance instructions for diesel engine, alternator, control panel and etc.
Primary operational preparation
1 Clean off dust, water or other impurities on the generator set;
2 Check the water volume in the water tank. If insufficient, please add water to
the full;
3 Check whether the cooling system is full of coolant, whether the water pump is full of suction water, whether the pipeline is leaky or blocked (including air blocked);
4 Ensure the fuel oil storage is sufficient in the fuel oil tank and the switch already opened; For the first-time inputting fuel oil, it is necessary for you to manually operate the oil pump so to get rid of the air which possibly exists in the fuel oil pipeline and to enable the diesel generator quickly started and well operated.
5 Ensure the lube oil level is between the two scales of the oil-check rod;
6 Ensure all electrical circuits, pneumatic elements (including battery charging
& start-up circuits) are correctly and well-connected.
7 Check whether water or oil leakage exists in the connections of the various systems such as diesel oil supply system, lubrication system, cooling system and etc.
8 Ensure all the elements/devices in the control panel integral, clean, not mutilated or not loosened.
9 Check whether the measuring appliances on the control panel are normally working, whether the underneath ATS switch system is stably fastened.
10 Inspect all fuses to ensure electricity normally conducted.
11 According to the labels on the generator set’s output cables, correctly link the generator set with the city electricity supply load network.
1 This diesel generator set is of automatic start and automatic load transfer switch. Please carefully read "GTR16 Instructions" for the control module of the generator.
2 Turn the key on the control panel to the manual operation position;
3 The set can achieve 1500RPM in the short time and build a stable voltage.
4 Attention: once the voltage is stable, the ATS system will automatically output load. So please ensure the output load terminal has an isolator switch, in order to avoid the electric power endangers life.
8 Ensure the trial start-up is normal. That is, manually turn the key to the stop position, the generator will stop.
Operation
New diesel generator set’s trial operation
After properly install the new set, please start to operate the generator according to the following procedures.

Remark: Shut down the generator and check whether the oil temperature is excessively hot

Shut down the generator and check whether the bearings are abnormal. Then replace the lube oil.
Diesel generator set operation
After unload working is stable, the generator is enabled to have gradually increased load. But dramatically increased load within a short time is forbidden. Ensure the lube oil’s pressure/temperature, output water’s temperature and other numerical values indicated at the measuring appliances on the control panel are within the range specified in the diesel engine, alternator operation instructions;
1 Periodically check whether the fuel oil, lube oil, cooling water volume is sufficient;
2 The new unit must work 4 hours under load below 90% rated output, then it is able to work at the rated output;
3 When the ambient conditions different from the permitted conditions, the generator’s power output should be revised according to the stipulation;
4 In course of operation, please pay attention to the following items at times:
Changes of water/oil temperature, oil pressure. If some changes abnormal, shut down the generator to have an inspection.
Regularly check the stored volume of the fuel oil, lube oil and cooling water, keep clean cooling water meanwhile ensure no leakage of oil, water or air or other abnormal phenomena. Observe whether air displacement color is different (normal displacement color is a little caesious. If the color is navy blue or dark black, please shut down and inspect the generator). Any drips of water or oil, metal, or other impurities into the alternator are strictly forbidden. Three-phase voltage of he generator should be balanced.
Keep detailed records of the generator, including its ambient parameters, its operation parameters, star-up time, operation duration, shutdown time, pause/malfunction reasons, problems solutions, replaced components names, quantities and etc.
The GF series diesel generators compose of different models of diesel engines, alternators, control panels and other prime elements. Each prime element requires different maintenance method. With a view to obtaining good maintenance for the whole generators, each element should be regularly maintained in compliance with its respective maintenance instruction.
For frequently operated or downtime generator, please undertake one-time maintenance per week with items as follows:
1 Clean various elements of the generator, wipe off dust, oily dirt;
2 Inspect the connections of the electrical elements and the wires to prevent from poor contact or short circuit.
3 Check whether the joint parts are well-installed, whether the lubricate is good;
General maintenance for generators as follows:
1 Alternators should be kept in dry places away from dampness (water drips, metal or other impurities are forbidden into alternators whenever the generators are running or in stock.)
2 Observe the running generator’s cooling situations. Its voltage and current should not be beyond its rated values.
Upon hearing abnormal sound, please immediately shut down the diesel generator set and inspect it to solve the problem;
3 Don’t store or use the alternators in water-vapor or dusty places.
Malfunction and solutions
There’s no voltage output or voltage is unstable because of
1. Broken AVR or rectifier. Please ask supplier for the spare parts.
2. Poor contact brush. Please clean the surface of the slip ring around the brush and strengthen brush spring’s pressure.
3. Broken fuse. Please replace a new one immediately;
4. Short circuit occurred at the end of loading. Please undertake inspection.
Alternator overheats because of
1. Overload and unbalanced three-phase current. Please watch out;
2. Too low frequency of the generator. Please undertake inspection;
3.Jammed ventiducts in silent diesel generator or damaged engine fan;
The voltage is too high or too low because of
Excessively long delivery circuitry resulting in low voltage. Please turn the AVR adjustment knob on the control panel.
Difficult or unable to start up the generator because of
1. Damaged start-up motor. Please replace or repair the motor.
2. Insufficient electric power in the accumulator cell. Please recharge the accumulator cell to the full.
3. Insufficient or lack of the fuel oil. Please add fuel oil and turn on the switch
4. Defective quality of fuel oil or water adulterated in the fuel oil. Replace the required standard fuel oil or get rid of the water in the fuel oil.
5. Jammed air pre-filter by dirt. Please clean it.
6. Jammed diesel oil pre-filter by dirt. Please replace the pre-filter.
The generator pauses suddenly because of
1 No oil in the fuel oil tank. Please add fuel oil.
2 Water adulterated in the fuel oil. Check the reasons and replace the fueloil.
3 Broken actiyator spring. Please replace the spring.
4 . Impaired GTR16 controller. Please contact the supplier
