ALABAMA SHRIMP FARMING
Inland production of marine shrimp is not new to Alabama but a quickly growing commercial enterprise
Some farms will harvest 100,000 Lb. per year. Farmers are cashing in on
this gigantic market ( 25 percent of the world shrimp market consists
of pond raised ) 90 percent of the crustaceans were produced in
equatorial countries ten years ago.
Alabama specializes in large premium shrimp, few farmers raise prawns and they are not grown for human consumption.
